If you are looking for a nice glass of wine at a reasonable price then wine bars are not for you. Most restaurants and wine bars offer a mediocre wine list at best, with prices at least 250% of retail. More often that not, wine will not be served in the proper stemware, and there is no guarantee that the wine has been properly stored.

However there is more to enjoying wine than simply drinking wine. Socializing with others is a big part of enjoying wine, and most wine bars offer an intimate atmosphere that is perfect for meeting with friends or for a romantic date. Just remember you are going to be overpaying for an average glass of wine.
