I picked this bottle of Edmeades Zinfandel up a couple of years ago at a wine sale. It had been sitting in my wine cooler until on a whim I decided to open it up. Boy, was I ever surprised.
2000 Edmeades Zinfandel
Price: $35 (sale price $14)

Wow! A big, rich, powerful full-bodied Zinfandel; very dense in color with a intoxicating nose of berry jam. I could have almost inhaled this wine as opposed to drink it. For being such a powerful red, I did not expect the finish to be as smooth as it was. While containing a high alcohol content of 16.4%, it was perfectly balanced and not overpowering.
Lush and decadent with flavors of raspberry, pepper and a hint of dark chocolate, this wine was a welcome surprise. Anyone who enjoys big, bold reds, will love this wine as much as I did.
